Building a private home near their children and grandchildren so they can enjoy family while maintaining independence in retirement.

Estate 800

We decided to build an ADU because we wanted the best of both worlds: to stay close to our children and grandchildren while still having our own private space. As we’ve gotten older, we realized how important it is to have family nearby without giving up our independence.

it became clear that being close to family was where we truly wanted to be.

We had actually been considering an ADU for almost four years. At one point, we decided against it and moved to South Carolina. But after living there, we realized just how much we missed our kids and grandkids. We found ourselves flying back to California three or four times a year, and after a few health scares, it became clear that being close to family was where we truly wanted to be.

Our office visit with Backyard Estates made the decision easy.

Our office visit with Backyard Estates made the decision easy. We met the entire team, and the conversation never felt like a sales pitch. Everything was open for discussion. If something wasn't the right fit, they talked through alternatives until we found the right solution.

We needed somebody that would take care of the process from beginning to end.

By the time we walked out of that meeting, we had all the numbers and knew exactly where we stood. There was no guessing, no hidden surprises, and no uncertainty.

Week one, this would happen. Week two, this would happen. Week three... and that's exactly how things happened.

Because we were living across the country while the ADU was being built, trust was everything. We needed somebody that would take care of the process from beginning to end. Backyard Estates explained exactly what would happen each week—and then delivered exactly as promised. Week one, this would happen. Week two, this would happen. Week three... and that's exactly how things happened.

The construction process was incredibly easy for us because they handled everything.

Our advice is simple: do your homework, choose a company you trust, and look at the quality of their work.

If you're considering building an ADU, our advice is simple: do your homework, choose a company you trust, and look at the quality of their work. For us, that company was Backyard Estates.

If I ever had to do this again, I would definitely use Backyard Estates.
