My name is Joksan Alcala, and we decided to build an ADU to create a space for visiting parents and grandparents, while also planning ahead for our own future. With how expensive things are getting, we wanted something that would help support our family long-term.

We had done remodels before, and the experience was frustrating—contractors wouldn’t respond, projects would stall, and we were constantly chasing updates. With Backyard Estates, it was the complete opposite. Everything was online, updated live, and we always knew what was happening.

If I needed an update, I just checked online—it was a completely different experience.

From the beginning, meeting Adam and Tom felt easy and comfortable. They weren’t pushy—they just told us the truth about what we could build. That gave us confidence right away.

At one point, we even went on vacation during construction. I was worried about leaving, but they told me not to stress. While we were gone, I got a call from my daughter saying, “Dad, they finished the framing.” I couldn’t believe it—the entire structure was framed in just three days. That’s when I realized I could truly relax and enjoy my vacation.

They weren’t pushy—they just told us the truth about what we could build.

Now that it’s finished, the quality speaks for itself. Everything—from the finishes to the details—is exactly what I would want in a home.

More importantly, we now have a space where our family can come together. It’s going to be perfect for gatherings, for visiting parents, and for creating memories.
